You’re Invited to “Creatives & Coffee” Featuring Artist John Donohue

Overview: Creatives & Coffee is an intimate monthly gathering that helps curious humans kickstart their day with a creative exercise (and caffeine).

We know that practice and exposure is the best way to flex the creative muscle so Creatives & Coffee allows our audience to learn from talented creative directors, designers, photographers, architects, film makers, and executives over a morning brew at Round K coffee shop in New York City.

By bringing our interviews and advice to life, we’re providing a space for people to hone their own skills while learning from the pros. It’s about more than inspiration — attendees walk away with insights that give them a competitive advantage in their work lives.

The Event: Every morning, before artist John Donohue gets to his Brooklyn studio, he’s already completed his first drawing of the day. It is the same thing he drew yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that: a small wind-up duck that sits on his living room table.

It makes for a routine that is seemingly ridiculous and deceptively simple. So why does he do it? Well, because these are the non-verbal parts of his day when he becomes really present. When he draws, it’s like he clears his head — kind of like a mental detox or athlete warming up. But unlike his signature restaurant drawings (below), these pieces are entirely for himself.

In this Creatives & Coffee event session, sponsored by Adobe, John will share the “why” behind his ritual, including the importance of doing it every workday, keeping a 10-minute time limit, and the metric he uses to define success.

Attendees will not only learn how to develop their own morning ritual, but they will also participate in John’s exercise, so they can take the first step to setting a daily intention that provides creative momentum for their workday.

This event is ideal for:

  1. Creative professionals who want to change their productivity habits and get them to stick.

  2. Creative directors, graphic designers, and illustrators who want to learn from someone who turned their hobby into a thriving business.

  3. New Yorkers who love great restaurants and great art.

This event will fill up quickly, so please email us at Editors@thecreativefactor.co if you would like to attend. We will see you there!
