You’re Invited to “Creatives & Cocktails” Featuring Illustrator Mr. Bingo
Overview: Creatives & Coffee is an intimate monthly gathering that helps curious humans kickstart their day with a creative exercise and caffeine. For this afternoon edition, we’ll switch out coffee for cocktails.
The Event Details: Mr. Bingo was a commercial illustrator for 14 years, working regularly for clients such as The New Yorker and The New York Times. Then, in 2022, he decided to do what so many creative professionals really want to do – vowed to never work for another commercial client again. From then on, he vowed to make the art he wanted to and let the paying public (sort of) decide his fate.
And it’s worked. Since then, he’s developed his own line of widely-successful prints, opened a shop in Clerkenwell, and kept his vow – no commercial clients.
Along the way, he’s amassed a following of 150,000 people on Instagram. And that’s important because every creative professional needs to build an audience, whether they are an independent practitioner or corporate design executive. A passionate, loyal audience is a critical key that unlocks work sales, new job opportunities, speaking engagements, and more. Other than making a sale, building an audience is probably the hardest thing for any creative professional to do. (Trust us, we’ve interviewed more than 500 of them.)
For this event, Bingo will open his studio on a Saturday afternoon just for attendees and share the techniques he uses to stand out in a crowd, develop and grow his following, and engage with his audience in authentic salesy-not salesy way.
It’s possible he will also discuss high treason, recruiting nudes for art, death threats, and becoming a dominatrix by mistake. We told him that sounds a lot for one Creatives & Coffee presentation, but we gave him full creative control, so if you don’t find the talk informative, you will at least be entertained. Hopefully both.
